Girl, 5, Mauled By Bear in Yellowstone Park
A grizzly maul injured 5 year old Daphne Jax in Yellowstone National Park Tuesday night. The girl, daughter of Eugene and Mrs Jax of St Paul Minnesota, was treated at Park Service Hospital Lake Junction for chest wounds and cuts and was reported in good condition. A park ranger shot and killed the bear about half an hour after the attack.

Father Finds Son's Body After Lake Meredith Drowning
Phillip Doyal Hearron, 13, vanished Sunday while swimming with three companions at Lake Meredith Fritch Canyon. His father Calvin Hearron, a National Park Service employee, found the body at 6 45 p m near Harbor Bay where searches had focused. Phillip, an eighth grader at Fritch Elementary, was reported missing Sunday evening after leaving with friends without parental permission. This marks the 17th fatality at the lake since 1965. Funeral is set for 7 p m at the Assembly of God Church in Fritch.

James Stewart's Stepson Killed in Vietnam Firefight
UPI reports Marine Lt Ronald W. McLean, stepson of actor James Stewart, was killed in a firefight near the DMZ in Quang Tri Province. A 24-year-old Beverly Hills native, he led a five man recon patrol from the 73rd Reconnaissance Battalion of the 3rd Marine Division based at Dong Ha. Stewart visited him four months earlier. McLean was son of Gloria Hatrick McLean and Edward McLean, and the Stewarts have twin daughters Judy and Kelly born in 1951.

A severe storm and windblown hail inflicted more than 2 million dollars in damage across Plainview and Hale County.
