As Israel accepts a UN ordered cease fire, troops push into Syria in an area marked by an X. The map shows Egypt and Syria fault lines where Israel allegedly violated the prior cease fire while blocks indicate territories Israelis say they now control.

Hue faced mortar fire for the second time in 10 days as 50 shells hit the U.S. compound.
About 1,500 Arab Cuban and North Vietnamese students protested near the U.S. and British embassies in Moscow. Soviet army and police, numbering over 2,500, barred the crowd with a double line of troops and police. Demonstrators accused the United States of aggression in the Middle East and Vietnam while chanting anti U.S. slogans.
The United States says a lasting peace in the Middle East requires Arab recognition of Israel and an end to long hostilities, while Israel must show moderation and Arab nations must reconcile. Officials warn constructive collaboration with the Soviet Union may be difficult amid policy differences, as Moscow used the Moscow Washington hotline during the crisis.
