Gen Ernest Thompson argues Texas can divide into five states under the original annexation, creating ten Senate seats and boosting independence from federal encroachment. He names East West North South and Central Texas as possible state names while noting increased political power.
The Fort Worth and Denver railroad station will get a face lift after Harry C. Murphy of Burlington Lines announced the plan at the Herring Hotel. Wright Armstrong, Burlington vice president for Texas, and the boss approved the project, praised as needed by local businessmen.
Mike Martinez, the young president of the Mirror Addition Civic Improvement Club, is advancing a youth center. The club, applying Roberts Rules in English, has reduced vandalism as youth join meetings, earning community respect. Martinez aims to become a certified public accountant.

Three year old Linda Pennington chased her puppy Tippy after it dashed into the street near their Fort Worth home. She redirected the dog to safety but was hit by the car, sustaining a skinned face and knees and a cut above an eye. The incident occurred yesterday in Fort Worth.
The University of Texas enrolls two Negroes and processes another graduate applicant as the Supreme Court bans segregation. John Saunders Chase, Horace Lincoln Heath, and J. H. Morton pursue graduate studies while Heman Sweatt plans September enrollment.
Dr. Bertha Barkan Luthy a Stanford University biochemistry research associate charged by a federal grand jury with falsely stating to an immigration inspector in Palo Alto on Feb 13 that she was born in Chicago. Born in Russia 1912 fled to the United States with her mother in 1917. The case notes she was born Nydia Barkan in Russia and that her parents used aliases in Michigan.
The Senate passed a compromise bill expanding the displaced persons program to admit 341000 homeless Europeans by June 30 1951 including 153000 already accepted. President Truman is expected to sign quickly to correct discrimination in 1948 law amid security concerns by Sen McCarran.
The Kefauver committee extends its inquiry into nationwide gambling with focus on big-time bookmaking in St. Louis and other Midwest cities. Florida Senator Holland urges examination of bolita and Cuba gambling in Florida. Testimony from William Molasky of St. Louis, described as an underground racing news overlord, is anticipated.
Daily News Index and his wife own Western Union stock valued at more than 300000 dollars. He is described as part owner of the Pioneer News Company which distributes racing news in the St. Louis area. Attorney General Taylor said the Pioneer service is part of a national syndicate that corrupts public officials.
Judge Harris Lofthus fined two individuals $100 each for reckless driving as Captain John Anderson warned of breaking up midnight outrages on Polk Street. One driver collided with a parked bar at North Mirror and Brooks. another case involved a wife left in a city park after midnight. Total fines for the day reached $362.
Dr Edward K Barsky and 10 officials of the Joint Anti Fascist Refugee Committee were jailed for contempt of Congress after a last hour protest. All 11 were convicted for refusing to produce records. Barsky received six months. the others three months.
Ernest O. Thompson of the Texas Railroad Commission urged Texas to divide into five states to gain more senators and defend tideland claims after the Supreme Court ruling. He proposed East North South Central Texas as distinct regions while remaining part of Texas.
Fred Bone a 72 year old former contractor died at his home in Amarillo after a heart attack. He had lived in Amarillo 43 years and was born in Kings Lynn England on July 19 1877. He came to America in 1903 and married Katie Hoppin in 1911. He retired in 1927 and led the city's planing commission and Rotary Club presidency. Survivors include his wife stepson brother sister nephew and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending at Blackburn Shaw.
Community events schedule for Amarillo features morning sessions of Sunday School at Mt. Zion Baptist, Homemaking sewing class at Amarillo High School, and various club meetings at Silver Grill Herring Hotel and Amarillo Hotel. A recreation class, Story Hour at Public Library, and a wrestling title match at the Tri-State Fair sports arena conclude the day.
In California the Democratic Roosevelt leads in the governor’s race with 555 481 votes to Warren’s 438 481 after 10 885 of 18 022 precincts. Warren dominates Republican totals with 627 905 to Roosevelt 67 714. Nixon and Cadagan Douglas win their party nominations for senator. Boddy trails in both parties. Downey endorses Boddy.
US Rep John E Miles won the New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial nomination aided by the state administration after leading unofficial returns from 665 of 910 districts. Chavez and brother David Chavez Jr. challenged control of the party. Miles led by over 10 000 votes with 37 633 to 27 336 for Chavez.
With 42 precincts remaining, Attorney General Sigurd Anderson trails 34.82 percent of the vote, while Joe Foss hopes late returns push the nomination toward a state convention in July. Leedom and others trail as final tallies stand.
In North Carolina Senator Frank P. Graham and attorney Willis Smith set a June 24 runoff for the US Senate nomination after Graham led May’s primary but failed to secure a majority. Former candidate Robert Reynolds and Olla Ray Boyd were eliminated, Clyde Hoey was unopposed. Smith urged broad citizen help to defend progressive government. Graham welcomed the challenge as part of democracy.
