Seven States Report War Registration Returns Show Gaps

Seven states and the District of Columbia reported Tuesday's war registration with 16 407 men registered against a census quota of 48 917. Officials warned that exemption figures were not yet known and that many may be slated for later review. Secretary Baker praised the effort and said local exemption boards would be established. reports indicated a lower than census tally but few evasions.

Training Camp Quotas Reduced for Next Fall

About 15 000 men will be tried in the second eight officers training camps from August 27 to November 26. The War Department cuts aim to recruit older, more experienced men over 31 and those with special ability. Quotas set by state and examining officers include Colorado 152 at Fort Logan, Texas 658 at Fort Sam Houston, Oklahoma 66 at Fort Sill, New Mexico 64 Santa Fe, Arizona 40 Whipple Barracks California 457 Presidio of San Francisco.

A tornado struck Perry Oklahoma today wrecking fifty buildings in the business district. Several people were injured but expected to recover. Damage was estimated at 150000 dollars. The tornado marked the fifth in Oklahoma that week.
