Amarillo youths seek summer jobs through youth service
About 500 local youths, both boys and girls, apply at the Youth Employment Service in the Barfield Building. The non profit bureau, funded anonymously by a local oilman, reports many want summer work or permanent roles but employers are scarce. Since opening in 1953 it placed around 1000 youths, 400 in the past six months, now facing a hiring lull.
