State Supreme Court rules on punitive damages
The Texas Supreme Court ruled that in civil cases with punitive damages defendants may introduce evidence of prior costs and previous punitive payments. In Malone three plaintiffs earned over 1 million in actual damages and 500 thousand in punitive damages each, while Wasiak awarded about 400 thousand in actual damages and just over 900 thousand in punitive damages per plaintiff. All awards were upheld after consolidation.
