Haley Denied Injunction Against Farm Acreage Act

Federal Judge William H. Atwell denied J Evetts Haley Jr a bid for an injunction to restrain enforcement of farm acreage allotments and the 1949 act. He also denied a request to convene three U S district judges to review the matter. The suit challenges a $506 penalty for growing wheat on 43 acres in Sequoyah county Oklahoma.

Deal for Clearing Gas Bill Faces White House Dims

Washington June 3 An outside chance the administration will withdraw or modify two amendments to the Harris O Hara natural gas bill could remove obstacles to action by the House Interstate Commerce Committee. White House spokesmen have discussed the amendments with ranking committee members as hearings near completion. If the amendments stay, the bill likely will not be reported this session. Senate Commerce Chair Warren Magnuson said no enactment this session regardless of House moves.

Eisenhower seeks extra 149.2 million for postal service

President Eisenhower asked Congress for 149.2 million dollars to sustain normal postal service through the next fiscal year. The request follows a 57.4 million dollar budget cut last month that left the Post Office with 3.192 billion for the year. If denied, White House spokesman Hagerty warned of substantial mail service reductions including possible Saturday delivery elimination and closure of hundreds of post offices. Continued on Page 2.

Court orders split on Du Pont and GM

One Dead in Car Crash Near Canadian Highway 60

A fatal crash on Highway 60 four miles south of Canadian killed Mrs. John F. Barnett about 50 of Woodward Oklahoma. Barnett’s husband and two sons were injured and hospitalized. Leonard 24, and Larry 8. Funeral plans for Mrs. Barnett are incomplete.

Three Women Die In Highway 83 Collision Near Liberal

Six women from Forgan, Oklahoma, traveling to Liberal were involved when their car rear ended a transport truck five miles south of Liberal on Highway 83. Killed were Mrs. Walt Cordes, 47, Mrs. W. T. Adams, 39, and Mrs. Earl Fowler, 45, with Mrs. Paul Teverbaugh, 48, and Miss Julia Elaine Underwood, 19, listed as in critical condition.

Highway Travel Nearing Normal After Flood Cleanups

Weather battered Panhandle highways as floodwaters from weekend rains up to seven inches receded. Public safety patrols and state workers restored routes across Hall, Cottle, Motley, Childress, Hardeman, Briscoe, Floyd and Dor­ney counties with U.S. 287 near Quanah and U.S. 7% south of Clarendon returning to normal.
