A. D. Jackson, 71, longtime supervisor of publications for the Texas A and M Agriculture Experiment Station, died of a heart attack in Bryan. Jackson helped found the organization that evolved into 4-H Clubs and retired last October after 25 years in service. He previously edited several Texas papers and, with Frank P. Holland, organized the Farm Boys and Girls Industrial League in 1904.
The Amarillo area expects fair weather Tuesday and Wednesday with slight warming Tuesday afternoon and little change in temperatures. West Texas will be clear to partly cloudy with minimal temperature variation. The move coincides with the Texas harvest and aims to meet July shipment needs, with CCC offices in Kansas City Chicago Minneapolis and Portland handling the buys.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of Rep. Robert Ewing Thomason of Texas to be United States District Judge for West Texas. The report comes as the nomination advances toward final Senate action.

C. Frank Gates, 52, of Fort Worth, charged with burglary in connection with a $7,000 safe cracking at Amarillo Livestock Auction Co. Friday night. He was arrested in Fort Worth by Ranger Dudley White and Detective T. H. Nall, jailed at Potter County, released on $5,000 bond. About $6,700 in company funds and over $600 in a small safe were stolen plus $39,000 in checks ignored. Gate’s prior residence noted as Amarillo. he was described as talkative and withholding details.
Famous novelist Ben Ames Williams and his wife visit Amarillo staying at the Amarillo Hotel on a year long vacation. The pair plan a trip from Oklahoma City through Mexico to Canada ending at a ranch in La Luz New Mexico. Williams has just finished a Civil War novel of about 700 thousand words begun years ago after two prior books. He notes his New England roots and frugal wardrobe as part of his easygoing character.
The Texas House voted to end the 50th legislative session at noon Friday June 6 with a 62 to 57 approval of the adjournment plan. The Senate must concur to finalize the adjournment as both chambers cleared key contested bills to the governor.
Polly Lowe eighteen year old Amarillo High School summer graduate won the Amarillo Jaycees sponsored Miss America title at The Nat. She will compete in Corpus Christi for Miss Texas on June 14 15 with the Buccaneer Day festivities.
