An Amarillo housewife, 17 year old Mrs. Thomas Eugene Latham, died from neck and head injuries after a two car collision on the Dumas highway near Thompson Park. Five others were injured but not seriously. The crash halted traffic on Highway 287 for about 30 minutes as responders and relatives arrived at St. Anthony's Hospital. Police suggested possible Potter County grand jury investigation. Rites for Mrs. Latham are pending at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

Fond du Lac Wisconsin July 30 Senator McCarthy charged the State Department under Secretary Acheson sabotaged American aid to Korea. Speaking to 4500 at an Izaak Walton League picnic he said funds approved by Congress and signed by President Truman were diverted, leaving only a token $200 spent for armament and other funds wasted. He accused Acheson of helping to mastermind disaster for America and victory for Communism in the Far East.
Prime Minister Clement Attlee delivered a hard hitting fireside chat from Chequers condemning global communism, accusing Russia of peace talk with a huge armed force, and urging Britain to fight domestic sabotage, sacrifice economic gains, and boost enlistments in the armed forces and civil defense.
