CAPE CANAVERAL Fla July 29 AP America's space program suffered a jolting setback when the Atlas booster exploded 65 seconds after launch during a heat re entry test of the Project Mercury capsule. The seven astronauts watched from a bunker as the 80 foot booster headed downrange and vanished in a roar. Navy ships searched the waters 4 to 12 miles south of the pad while NASA said the capsule likely remained intact as it sank. Signals suggested the space cabin floated with the capsule.
