Meley Injury After Tractor Overturns on Highway 66

LeRoy Meley a 20 year old Dallas farmhand was critically injured when a tractor overturned on US Highway 66 near Conway. He was thrown under a towed combine harvester and run over. He is in grave condition with brain concussion and internal injuries. Passerby Miss Mary Louise Keating rushed him to St Anthony's Hospital.

Reds Claim Nazis Retreat 100 Miles

Russian reports on the front describe growing Soviet confidence as German claims center on destroying Red troops rather than occupying Soviet land. Canyon Museum Brick Drive Receives New Donations

More than 1,000 individuals or firms have contributed to the Canyon Museum Brick Drive in addition to about 40,000 donors of brick. Dr. L. F. Sheffy, secretary of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society, reported today on new donations from listed Canyon and area residents and names.

Amarillo completes aluminum drive with strong donations

Aluminum drive in Amarillo ends last night with a new total surpassing the city quota. A final weigh in Thursday will tally the all-metal collection supervised by Bill Boyce. Major contributions came from G. E. Jones Electric and Joe Siegel, with praise for volunteers and pickup efforts. A Polk Street trailer remains for late drops and shipping orders from OPM authorities.

O'Daniel to Take U S Senate Oath Next Monday

Gov. W. Lee O'Daniel announced he would take the oath as junior United States Senator from Texas next Monday in Washington. He said he would not resign as governor, but would automatically relinquish the governor’s office to Lieut. Gov. Coke R. Stevenson.

Weather finishes hot spell with heat relief near

The Weather Bureau reports fair Amarillo and West Texas conditions with warm continued ahead. Temperatures yesterday peaked around the high 90s, many Texas areas hit 100 or more, with 104 in Grand Island and Clinton. A cool front forming in North Dakota Minnesota is expected to reach the Midwest tonight and Ohio Valley tomorrow, offering relief as heat fatalities reach 137 and drownings rise to 144 for the ninth day of the heat wave.
