Cowboys Visit Amarillo Warn Business Men to Dress for Parade

Straw Boss-Conductor-Goodwill Chairman Clay Thornton of the chamber of commerce warns Amarillo business men to wear Levi overalls boots and big hats for the next three weeks. A brand inspector is named and fare is per hundredweight with weigh in at purchase. Tickets go on sale Monday for a 400 plus crowd using chute loading similar to cattle methods.

Missing 26-ton Hawaii Clipper in Pacific storm

The Hawaii Clipper with 15 aboard vanished in the typhoon cradle of the Pacific after last radio at 11:09 p.m. CST Thursday. U.S. military units launched air and sea searches from Manila, Manila Bay, and nearby waters, with Pan American officials hopeful as more ships and planes join the hunt.

Crude shut down extended for August by Texas rail commission

The Texas Railroad Commission ordered continued Sunday shutdowns for oil wells in August and reduced total state allowables by two percent except East Texas. The August basic allowable is 1,417,805 barrels, up 68,613 from July due to five Sundays in July and four in August. East Texas factor remains 2.32 percent. Rodessa field exempted from Sunday closing.

Amarillo Welcomes Dalhart XIT Reunion Visitors

The XIT Reunion booster tour brought about 100 Dalhart cowboys and cowgirls to Amarillo with a van parade in the business district. John Colquitt led the Dalhart delegation with F L Jolley and Clay Thornton replying as hosts and inviting Amarillo to attend the August 8 and 9 Dalhart event. The group toured Hartley, Dumas, Stinnett, Borger, Pampa, White Deer and Panhandle and broadcast from Pampa.

Cedillistas Up To Old Tricks

Two killed and several injured in a San Luis Potosi state train explosion blamed on Cedillo rebels. The blast wrecked a second class coach on the San Luis Potosi Tampico division near El Gato and La. Railways official Raul Nevarez named Cedillista rebels as responsible beyond doubt.

Four Convicts Escape Huntsville Prison Farm Heist

A group of four convicts overpowered staff at Ferguson Camp Eastham Prison Farm and fled in a car toward Midway. The countess, Barbara Hutton, heiress to the Woolworth fortune, settles an undisclosed sum for their two year old son Lance. The count waives any share of her fortune and gains parental rights while the mother retains care for most of the year.
