Pioneer parade plans amid Will Rogers route celebration in Amarillo

A 1917 Amarillo meeting led by Clay Thornton organized the Old Southwest Days special train to Dalhart for the XIT reunion and prepared the pioneer parade. Rehearsals for Coming of Coronado and Juan Pedilla Martyrdom continue as Howard Dilley and Harry Walters coordinate. Local and national interest grows with Leo Carillo, Irene Hervey, Alan Jones and Irvin Cobb possibly joining, tickets selling fast, and Miss Southwest prize set with two round trip tickets to California.

Amarillo Favored for Texas Veterans Hospital Site

Major C. H. Stratton toured Amarillo sites for the $1.5 million veterans hospital approved for Texas. He praised Amarillo facilities and noted the area’s large veteran population and good rail and highway access. Reserved edition rush extends to six this evening

More than five thousand copies were reserved yesterday with hundreds of calls. Reservations will be accepted until 6 oclock tonight and no papers can be reserved after. Prints start Sunday at 8 am and circulation will tally orders to determine print run. Copies cost 50 cents and reservations without cash are being accepted. Torrential Rain Dumps Four to Six Inches on Dumas Area

The Dumas region endured a cloudburst last night with four to six inches of rain flooding the highway and town. A preceding and following dust storm hit the area while nearby towns reported lighter totals, including Dalhart Channing Stratford Panhandle Pampa and Higgins. Cedillo Supposedly Hiding in Mexican Hills

El Popular reports latest military findings place Rebel Gen Saturnino Cedillo in the mountains over 125 miles north of Mexico City near the borders of San Luis Potosi Guanajuato and Queretaro states. The Confedera tion of Mexican Workers organ says the search continues.

The Pacific Ocean Star reports a great purge in Primorsk province to thwart Japanese efforts to undermine Soviet strength. It says spies and terrorists from Japan were sent to Primorsk, aiming to disrupt party unity and military discipline, led by Stalin’s initiative, with a firm warning to Japan. Amarillo Girl Featured at XIT Reunion Dance

Miss Jane Marie Tomberlin of Amarillo will be spotlighted at the XIT Reunion dance at the Trianon Hall in Dalhart Friday night.
