SUN OUTCLASSED SCHENECTADY A GE test reveals electric arcs burn hotter than the sun. The copper arc tops 6800F, the common carbon arc 9400F, tungsten 11300F, and certain welding arcs reach 10300F with flares reportedly exceeding 13000F.
The Daily Herald reports a seven year Admiralty plan to create a near complete fleet by 1942. It outlines 12 capital ships 33 cruisers 63 flotilla destroyers 21 submarines and new aircraft carriers plus global sharing with the United States France Germany Italy and Japan.

More than 3 600 rural residents registered for the 26th annual farmers short course at Texas A M College Station. Officials expect attendance to reach 7 000 as campus tents fill and agents are housed in nearby Bryan. The event opened with a union service and features President T O Walton and Dr J Howard Williams as principal speakers. Dr Harry G Knowles also spoke at the service.
Senator Vandenberg of Michigan branded the wealth tax plan a hoax and a sterile political gesture. He urged immediate adjournment on August 10 and a real tax debate next January, while Democrats pressed to draft the bill in conjunction with the budget and extend the session.
City Marshal Bill Brunt killed Pete Arrant in a gun battle that also involved Arrant’s brother John Arrant and Garrett Holcombe Jr. Brunt was slightly wounded. Arrant died after being shot three times in the chest. John Arrant and Holcombe posted $1000 bond on assault with intent to murder charges. Brunt’s bond was $1000 on a felony charge. all were released. Cause of shooting not learned.
In Bogota on July 28 police searched the home of Juan Villa an engineer at the Guadio military air school and found revolutionary propaganda destined for troops along with codes and other documents Villa was imprisoned.

Henry Schuessler a 31 year old escaped convict confessed to four robberies and two burglaries in Fort Worth and to burglaries at Waco and Temple. Detectives said he used a house to house begging system to gain access and search homes for valuables to fund narcotic needs averaging about seven dollars daily.
Curtis J. Tennyson 18 of Cash Arkansas was to be arraigned after attempting to pick up a $2,000 package left at a highway crossroads in response to an extortion letter. Mrs. Pearl Durham, Flint widow of a former GM executive, received a penciled note threatening her life and was told to deposit $2,000. Police alerted Federal officers who took over the case.
A 14 year old, Roger Hoyt Long, was killed when his car collided with another vehicle emerging from a side road onto the Shreveport Ringgold highway on Sunday morning. His parents escaped unharmed.
A 17 500 mile mass flight ended in Fort Worth as three Curtis Condor planes bought by National Air Lines of Chile arrived from Chicago via St. Louis and Tulsa. The crew included Senor and Senora Charles Lucas and two Chilean pilots Adelberto Fernandez and Julio Tapiao. The planes, bound for Chilean mail and passenger service, will operate from Agica to Magallanes and onward to Santiago.

Laurel Maryland July 28 state police report Wade L. Smith a 23 year old former state policeman was shot and killed by his wife after a quarrel. The 18 month marriage ended with her fleeing to a relative then surrendering hours later. She claimed self defense. The pistol was handed to officers. Smith had resigned a year earlier and worked as an automobile salesman.
Five people died in a head on crash near North Baltimore Ohio as two cars collided while police detectives were transporting a suspect. Kansas City Missouri and statewide towns sweltered with 100 plus degree heat as a new 1935 high was set in several locations.
Fire tore through Bowlin and Amberson Garage at 413 East Fifth Avenue beneath the Audi torium Hotel late Sunday afternoon. Acetylene welding gear exploded, shaking the building, but little damage occurred beyond looted walls as firefighters arrived from Central Station and extinguished the flames in five minutes.
In Centerville Alabama Marion Suttle ten toed her six year old sister Ann from a railroad trestle to safety this afternoon but was killed moments later by a locomotive. Ann survived a fractured skull after tumbling into mud as eight watchers on the trestle were overtaken by the train.
Fair bulletin issued by Northwest Texas Hospital attendants reports C. H. Huffmaster injured Saturday night near his home at 1607 West Seventh Avenue. He sustained a broken leg and minor bruises and lacerations.
Mrs. Cima Thompson, 27, a student nurse from Eufaula, dies when the plane piloted by rural mail carrier William Gilmore crashes at Enterprise Airport after takeoff. Pilot Gilmore and Earl Jones suffer serious injuries with broken legs and cuts. The crash follows motor trouble just after speed built.
Wiley Post and his wife and the actor Will Rogers landed today at Union Air Terminal at 1 35 P M after a flight from Durango Colorado. They entered Post s automobile and left the field as Post said a planned flight to Russia was still uncertain.
Mrs. Lee Clark of Austin, reported missing since last Monday, was located in Waco today by police. She had been last seen in Georgetown last week.
Two 18 year old cyclists Nimmo Snow of Birdville and Eugene Henson of Fort Worth died when their motorcycle collided with a car on Highway 10 as they returned from Denton to Austin. The crash killed both instantly and raised the county toll that year to 51. The car was driven by C D Booker of Ponca City Oklahoma.
U S secret service Capt Thomas J Callaghan announces the arrest of four counterfeiters in Chicago. About $5000 in spurious $20 bills seized after fakes passed at race tracks and on the North Side. Suspects named Philip Denman or Denmore Leo Trant Whitey Newman and a fourth man unnamed.
Richard Vincent reported to police that a large gray rat invaded his Detroit home and bit three sleeping children Irene 18 Richard 14 and Wesley 12 before attacking him. The children were sent to a hospital for treatment by health officials with injuries to their shoulders and arms.
Olney Texas July 28 H Sloan 70 Olney merchant died here today from a heart attack at his home according to local dispatch.
