In Tucumcari New Mexico an Illinois man James O Lucas aged 51 from Peoria was hit by a Rock Island Lines freight west of Glenrio while walking the tracks and remained in satisfactory condition Thursday night at Trigg Memorial Hospital. Train crew reported the accident and R W Douglas of Amarillo was the engineer.

Gov. David Hall issued a proclamation designating Saturday and Sunday as POW Sabbath of Prayer after relatives of missing soldiers presented a flag symbolizing their plight. About 15 members of the National League of Families attended the ceremony.
