A gasoline truck fire in Ottawa Kansas killed driver Joe G. Duree age 25 of Topeka and a visiting Detroit woman Louella Francis age 22. The truck swerved, struck a post and tipped over spilling fuel igniting a five hour blaze that melted tar and damaged about 60 shade trees and multiple structures. Damage was estimated at 60000 dollars as fire crews fought the flames and rescued the victims.
A 3 year old watched as a doctor treated Mrs Irene Pond 28 and her son Don 32 after a crash on the north highway near Pleasant Valley. The mother lost control striking a concrete bridge while en route to town to fetch her husband Virgil Pond. The twins Dick and Don faced minor blame for hiding car keys.

A Greyhound bus plunged toward a 250-foot precipice on a steep hillside near Johnstown Pa. The driver 23 year old Clay Worthington of Gerry Pa. steered the vehicle into a roadside embankment as he could not stop in time. Twenty two of the twenty three passengers were treated for minor injuries at nearby hospitals.
