The killer is suspected to have dragged the body to the weeds after striking him possibly with a vehicle.
The Senate voted 87 to 2 to extend the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration for five years as crime rates rise. The bill directs more funds to juvenile delinquency prevention and rehabilitation, with Sen. Birch Bayh noting many serious crimes are by teenagers. It goes to the House, which favors a shorter 15 month extension for tighter oversight.
The Senate Finance Committee wrote a provision to cut tax benefits for U S firms that bribe foreign officials or participate in the Arab boycott of Israel. The 86 to 1 Senate vote approved antibribery and antiboycott language as part of an omnibus tax bill and now moves to the House. If enacted it could cost offending firms about 100 million dollars in 1977.
The Amarillo Independent School District board voted unanimously last night to raise teacher salaries by 3.45 to 4.45 percent, yielding about 300 to 600 more dollars than last year. ACTA urged 5.6 percent across the board with added credits for advanced degrees, while Supt. Ashworth noted a 231,251 loss in state funds requiring local funding.
