Grownups Rise and Shine for Boys on Catalina Trip
Santa Monica Calif July 26 Never underestimate the power of 200 boys. On Catalina Island day the Boys Ranch youngsters stayed in Santa Monica High School gym Monday night and left at 3 a.m. to reach Wilmington in time. Adults accompanying the trip slept at Miramar Hotel and were urged to rise early as well. Frank Helvey led the wagon crew urging the group to go, and two chamber of commerce presidents K Grenewald Amarillo and Cal Yeates Colorado Springs joined hosts for the voyage. The party boasted extensive photography gear with several cameras including 16 mm movie gear and Rolliflex. Stewart Harvey Hl of the Santa Fe line was aboard and worked in the galley. Wednesday is Roy Rogers day with Trigger notes likely.

Prisoners Riot at Bexar County Jail in San Antonio
About 200 inmates rioted in the downtown jail for nearly three hours taking control of fourth and fifth doors. Fire hoses were used, top floors were wrecked and lights and plumbing torn out. Officers regained control by 11:30 p m with 24 guards watching.

Pistol Pete, famed Southwest lawman, will visit Amarillo for the Western Cowpunchers Assn reunion August 24 and 25. The 94 year old Frank Eaton, once a nemesis of Southwestern outlaws, remains active in Perkins Oklahoma where he lives and is known by his nickname. His life story appears in the biography Pistol Pete and is a staple of Western lore.
