Detroit July 26 complete tabulations show near unanimous support for a strike among Great Lakes unions including marine firemen piers water tenders and coal passers and sailors. Only three of 533 votes against a strike were cast.
Western railroads based in Chicago say freight moves without congestion and passenger service is normal while shopmen strike leaders claim near total walkout. Car loadings run higher than last year except lines hit by coal strikes as U S Railway Labor Board keeps hands off. Idaho growers warn of disaster if strike end not found and blackout of potato shipments risks thousands of cars eastward before September 1.
Denison Texas July 26 the first day of martial law in the railroad shop district passed quietly with no untoward incidents as state troops under Colonel Charles Nimot took control. Joseph S Myers state labor commissioner who resigned as protest telegraphed to Governor Neff but received no reply. Federated shop union leaders reportedly warned Neff against accepting Myers resignation.
The execution of Ernest Vickers, sentenced to hang in Fort Worth for murder, was postponed one week by Governor Neff. An appeal to commute to life imprisonment was filed, but the Governor cannot rule due to strike and other urgent duties. Vickers killed John Loper, a railroad special agent he tried to rob.

London reports that Britain informs Washington a three wire limit rule cannot be precedent for seizure beyond the list. The note cites cooperation over liquor running into the United States via Bermuda and the Bahamas, with Britain acknowledging limits in enforcing seizures outside authorized lists.
Washington July 26 President Harding rejected claims that the government is trying to force labor under the GAR policy. He urged railroad employes and miners to return to work under existing conditions while agencies refine the demand. He spoke after a telegram from J Cleve Dean accusing the administration of forcing labor under gun power. He also met with Pennsylvanian vice president Atterbury to discuss seniority issues before conferences with railroad executives.
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad will deliver a written set of proposals from today’s conference with its men to President Harding. Daniel Willard, B and O president, will have Charles W. Galloway, vice president, carry the copy to the White House tonight in response to a request from Senator James Ek Watson.
Former Governor James E Ferguson will start his campaign for the Democratic nomination for U S Senator in Waxahachie next Tuesday August 1. He will speak at Waco on August 2 and Georgetown on August 3 with Farle B Mayfield as his running mate.
Dallas, July 36. Thomas B. Love, Democratic national committeeman from Texas, endorses Earle I. Mayfield for United States Senator in the Democratic nomination run off. Mayfield led the primary, facing James E. Ferguson who edged out Charles A. Culberson.
Austin Texas July 26 Governor Neff has taken no action on the resignation of Labor Commissioner Joseph B Myers received by wire from Denison He prefers to wait a day or so before announcing whether he will accept it He had no comment to make about it.
The Daily News will receive the returns of the Benny Lonard Lew Tendler boxing bout at Jersey City tonight. The boxers enter the ring about 10 o'clock daylight Eastern time. It will be a heavily attended event with advance tickets strong. The News will relay results by rounds and post them to readers in front of the office. A radio concert will accompany the event and baseball results will be announced along with other news. Come to the News tonight to get the fight returns with other items for the crowd.
Indiana moves to operate sufficient mines to meet state needs. Governor McCrary backs the plan as coal production accelerates. Meanwhile Oklahoma and Arkansas see mine workers ordered out to maintain safety, with limited exemptions for utility mines as a central coal distribution plan is formed under Hoover.
Washington July 26 The defeat of the Republican party in 1912 was attributed in the Senate by Finance Committee Chairman to the refusal years earlier to place news print paper on the free list in the Wayne Aldyen tariff act. Democratic leaders demanded full details as Senators Watson Smoot and McCumber recalled behind the scenes presses and a warning that a duty on newsprint would drive the Republicans from power.
In Atlanta on July 26 H C Caldwell announced after talks with J B Hockaday that threatened clerks strike at Southwestern Express Company has been averted. All differences have been amicably adjusted.
B M Jewell leader of striking railway showmen, six shop crafts presidents, Timothy Healy of firemen and oilers, and A O Wharton of the Railroad Labor Board left Chicago by the B and C at 10 30 for Washington for a conference with President Harding on the rail strike. They planned to return Friday morning after a secret hurried talk with the president and concealed departure details only revealed hours later.
Texas returns showRenomination for Rayburn and Black in the first district with Black leading Cyclone Davis by 747 votes in one county and Rayburn leading Westbrook by 1,284 in four complete Fourth district counties. Other races indicate runoffs in the Court of Criminal Appeals Fifth district with Taylor leading Jones, and statewide counts across senatorial and state races with multiple counties reporting.
Dallas July 26. W L Hall of New Boston was elected secretary of the Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association at a board of directors meeting. Hall succeeds Jeff D Montgomery who died recently. H M Campbell of New Boston was elected a director.
A five minute oil shot spouted over the Holmes McIlroy McGee Smith-Capers derrick before the hole bridged. About 600 quarts of nitroglycerine were used and gas escaped in small amounts. Drillers will clean the hole to assess production, with initial hopes of increasing output from 150 to about 300 barrels per day after cleanup. Panhandle towns gathered for the test and W. W. Silk’s well south of Smith-Capers showed 1600 feet of oil sand with oil rising 600 feet before tools could be pulled.
Washington reports indicate favorable reception of the Treasury’s new four and one quarter percent four year notes. Secretary Mellon commented on the rate as a new law level for government obligations with a four year maturity.

He sent a telegram to Judge Barry Miller thanking him for his campaign support and noting he would abstain from actively backing any candidate. Friends say he joined the race late over the Ku Klux Klan issue and its potential impact on the South.
