An ousted Reeves County ASC official told the Senate Investigations Subcommittee that Billie Sol Estes’ lawyer helped draft an affidavit to halt Estes cotton deals. Rufus D. Atkinson testified he accepted gifts from Estes but denied granting favors, while the committee probed 3,000 acres of transferred cotton allotments tied to Reeves and Pecos counties.
A New York firm seeks to halt the Texas court of inquiry into Billie Sol Estes. Judge Mary Lou Robinson granted a temporary restraining order delaying the hearing, with arguments set to determine the inquiry’s scope. The anti trust action targets Commercial Solvents Estes and Superior Manufacturing Co. of Amarillo.

17 year old Thomas Dean Magnu drank weed killer after scribbling TV lines. He died at St. Anthony Hospital minutes later. His mother reported the time and efforts to aid him. Coroner has not ruled yet. Funeral services are at Boxwell's. He was a Lawndale Baptist Church member. Survivors include parents a sister a grandmother and grandparents.
