Deputy Assistant District Attorney James K. Smith announced that about ten thousand dollars in graft were collected over eighteen months in one inspection district. Five policemen have been indicted as the investigation implicates police and other officials in levying assessments on disorderly house keepers across parts of New York City.
Henry McIntyre and his wife besieged on Chicago's west side after he killed several people. They fired on officers before the dwelling was dynamited. Four people died, including the couple. A patrolman was wounded and a detective later killed McIntyre citing self defense.
