Area highway toll rises with Hereford student and two Clarendon players dead
A Texas Tech student from Hereford and two Clarendon High School senior football players died in separate Sunday accidents. The Amarillo area end weekend toll reached seven with three others critically hurt and two young girls killed in other crashes. Richard Wayne Owens of Hereford, 20, died in a two car collision near Canyon. David Lynn Easterling and Charlie Mac McClellan, both 17 of Clarendon, died when their car overturned near Clarendon. Three Amarillo Air Force Base sergeants were killed in a collision near Amarillo. Mrs. Bobbie Lena Bishop, 59, of Floydada died after her car struck two calves on Farm Road 1958. Owens’s car hit a Floydada man’s vehicle. the Hollons were in critical condition. Funeral plans were set for Owens at Hereford First Baptist Church. Easterling, a Pampa-born football and track standout, had survivors and a Baptist church connection. McClellan, a two-time all district football selection, was from Clarendon. See WRECKS on Page 2.
