The government seeks conviction of 11 white defendants for conspiring at Clinton Tennessee to block school integration. Prosecutor says Kasper intended to remove Negroes from the high school while others aided the plan. The case centers on the Dec 4 beating of Rev. Paul Turner after escorting Negro students back to classes.
A 17 year old girl was rescued 40 hours after a small plane wreck near Bingham Nebraska. She spent time pinned with her parents and the pilot and was found waving a white scarf. She suffered a broken leg and a pinned foot but remained in good spirits.
House supporters Cleve Bailey and Samuel McConnell Jr. express optimism that the $31.5 billion federal school aid bill will pass this week amid heavy odds. They foresee a tight vote and oppose the Powell amendment denying aid to boards defying integration orders.

At the Dallas Zoo on July 21 a three year old female gorilla from the Canary Islands named Jennyfresh swatted at a male gorilla named Jimmy in a playful display before a Sunday crowd. Jenny bit zoo director Pierre Fontaine during a press moment as the two gorillas arrived with a purchase price of $5,000 each, and officials hopeful for a future family.
