Rally to climax election week in Panhandle political event

A large rally at Butler Field Tuesday at 7 30 p m features talks by congressional and state senate candidates and two gubernatorial contenders Ernest Thompson and Harry Hines plus Harley Sadler for Jerry Sadler. Downtow n parades and a Gulf Oil sound truck from Dallas boost the event with band music and short entertainment.

Last Wind Storm Victim Released at Malin Park

The last patient injured in the Malin Park grandstand collapse, Gene Fatheree the Pampa druggist, was released from St. Anthony's Hospital yesterday morning after a severe head gash. Several others with minor injuries were treated and released. The West Texas New Mexico League all star game was rescheduled for August 9. Damage to the grandstand neared $1000. The Lamesa Amarillo doubleheader proceeded after debris clearance. Pocketbooks dropped during the incident were returned to Don Howard at the ticket office.

Thompson Motorcade Plans for Thompson Rally

Ernest Thompson, governor hopeful, will be greeted by thousands of supporters as motorcades are organized by delegation lieutenants in 28 counties. Thompson will speak at Vernon, Quanah, Childress, Memphis, Hedley, Clarendon, Claude, Panhandle, and Amarillo, with a big All Panhandle rally at Butler Field in the evening.

Thompson Leads In Rio Grande Valley Straw Poll

In Harlingen and across the Rio Grande Valley Ernest Thompson leads in a straw poll for governor, neck and neck with O Daniel as results are released. Thompson plans 23 campaign appearances ending with a homecoming in Amarillo and a closing rally in Fort Worth to boost his run for the governorship.

Ketch Plans Globe Circling Voyage From Seattle

A 36 foot auxiliary ketch built and crewed by three Seattle youths aims to circumnavigate the globe and possibly be the lightest vessel to pass Cape Horn. Albert Hausske 21 John Rathbun 21 and Joseph Bowers 24 organize the amateur project with Mrs Hausske joining in Samoa. They plan to sail in September with support from steamship firms marine suppliers and other backers.

Opening Gala At Lake Fryer Draws Thousands

More than 5,000 attended the Lake Fryer dedication on Wolf Creek Sunday. The event featured boat races, band concerts, a bathing beauty revue, swimming, and picnics as the nearly full lake entertains Panhandle residents.
