President Roosevelt faced heavy rain and fog while aboard the schooner Liberty off Shelburne Nova Scotia. The yacht Sewanna turned south to skirt Yarmouth, reversing course after a 45 mile sail from Cape Sable, with the president ending the day anchored near Shelburne.
The American Liberty League asserted the New Deal failed to gain federal power through unconstitutional laws and says the administration now relies on taxing power to push its social and economic aims. In Houston, refuge authorities sought Apolonio Rodriguez, a convict from Blue Ridge State Farm No. 1, who fled in a friend's car.

Special to The News from Washington reports the Soil Conservation Service found about half the Southern Plains land seriously eroded in a 25 000 square mile survey across Texas Kansas Colorado and Oklahoma. Of 15 810 885 acres studied about 7 091 000 acres or 43 percent show erosion tied to farming practices, yet the region remains far from desert with agricultural potential still intact.
The survey shows wind erosion severe in eight of about 30 Panhandle counties, with about 8 710 000 acres affected seriously. Included are 16 805 farms valued at 189 876 291 dollars. The report notes some areas are unsuitable for cultivation and wind erosion varies by county. Counties surveyed span Colorado Kansas Oklahoma and Texas, including Bent Prowers Baca and Dallam Sherman Hansford Ochiltree Hartley Moore Oldham Deaf Smith and others.
A $90,000 Vernon blaze swept the business district early today, gutting FE O Youngblood Furniture Store with stock about $18,000 and $40,000 in building damage. Three brick structures suffered serious damage and five more were slightly harmed by flames, smoke, and water. Firemen battled eight hours. cause undetermined. nearby Electra unit did not assist.
Two cars collided head on east of Dalhart injuring seven people. The Dunn family from Shawnee Oklahoma were en route to California. Mrs. Dunn, 29, has a brain concussion and is in critical condition, Raymond Walker is paralyzed, Roy Dunn and a child Joyce sustain injuries. Wells family members, including Mrs Wells with a critical eye injury, also injured. all four released from hospital later.
A large rally for Senator Clint C. Small is planned in Pampa at 8:30 tonight, with John Sturgeon, Ed Dunigan Jr, and Mel Davis organizing. The stop marks the start of his final Senate re election drive and includes further rallies in Borger Clarendon Hediey Claude Canyon and a Amarillo homecoming before Saturday election.
Paul Colvert secretary to the Oklahoma Board of Public Affairs and his wife were slightly injured when their car blew out and went into a ditch near Friona Texas. Their two young daughters Catherine and Mary were uninjured and the family remained under observation in Hereford hospital for about three days.

The University of Texas announced that Dr A P Brogan will succeed Dr Henry Winston Harper as Dean of the Graduate School upon Harper’s retirement September 1. Harper has led the Graduate School for 23 years and served on the university faculty since 1894.
