Seven Killed in Boat Blast Near Alexandria Bay

A dynamite explosion on the drill boat America in the St. Lawrence River killed seven men and injured nine. The 150 drill boat blew apart, leaving only debris and floating timbers as rescuers and an oil tanker offered aid. Names of the dead include Arnold Freeman Jimmy Priestly Ivan Rush Joe Slusariack William Aikin Sr Harry Barr. The America belonged to R D Huffman Construction of Cleveland. The incident occurred near a canal site where a 1930 Canadian blast also killed many. The Tennessee forest products value for 1930 was $15,000,000.
