In Mount Pleasant Michigan a field fire claimed four lives and injured 14 as a crowd of 200 watched the shooting of a newly struck gusher. Flames from the Struble No. 1 well spread to a nearby 2600 barrel per day flow as firemen fought through the night to prevent total loss.
The House of Representatives plans to resume its oil industry investigation with Pat Neff and R D Parker to testify. Governor Sterling may appear next week as the committee weighs whether oil prices reflect market manipulation or major company control. Claude Wild of the Independent Petroleum Association lauds the probe but seeks limited regulation to protect small operators and enforce fair pipeline and rate rules.
Five of seven picnickers from Wausau drowned near Antigo when a squall hit a small motorboat on Summit Lake in Wisconsin. Victims included two boys aged 7 to 10, Otto Baptist, Clarence Detter, and Mrs. Detter. Earl Goertz and Emil Bernedt escaped to shore.
Archangel, July 19 Bound for Arctic exploration the Soviet ice breaker Maligan sails with three Americans and Russian scientists and journalists aboard. General Umberto Nobile also travels to trace the Italia wreck and locate six missing comrades from the 1928 expedition.

F P West a 64 year old retired banker formerly of Cleburne and recently moved to Amarillo died on the operating table at a local hospital after a several month illness. He served 35 years with Farmers & Merchants Bank of Cleburne and was active in local civic affairs. Survivors include his widow two sons F B West and W N West both Amarillo and a daughter Mrs Hattie West Harrell Fort Worth. His home was 1500 Jackson Street.
The Texola-Willow Ramblers defeated the Earle Wyatt nine of Amarillo 8 to 0 to capture the sixth annual Globe News tournament and remain undefeated. Wyatt nine earlier beat Phillips 66 Borger 15 to 7 in a high scoring opener. The Texola-Wilson team wins first place money the Wilson-Western trophy gold baseballs and the Panhandle Eastern New Mexico and Western Oklahoma championship.
In Kilgore Texas after 26 days of flames workers pumped water and mud into the Bell and Graddy well through a 170 foot tunnel reaching 25 feet below the surface. Fifteen minutes after water began flowing into the casing the fire died and mud was pumped in to seal the well. New control heads will be installed and the area sprayed to allow swabbing and bringing the well under control.
Four hundred people at the Alto Frio Baptist encampment north of Uvalde were isolated by a 10 foot rise in the Frio River after six inches of rain swelled the stream. The camp president said all members were safe by phone. A car driven by J. C. Matthews and his wife from Hutchinson Kansas was swept away as floodwaters claimed the vehicle. The Knippa railroad trestle on the line from a rock crusher was swept away.
Heavy clouds hung over the Panhandle but failed to bring widespread rain. Light showers touched Dumas Stratford Hereford Sanford Stinnett Dimmitt Plainview and Amarillo with minimal accumulation and no road impact as skies remained unsettled Sunday night.
Oklahoma experiences unsettled conditions with occasional showers on Monday and likely Tuesday. East Texas shows partly cloudy skies Monday with north portion thundershowers Tuesday, while West Texas and New Mexico expect local thunder showers on Monday and probably Tuesday. Arizona generally fair with possible showers in the east Monday. Moderate to fresh southerly winds affect the coast.
Flood waters surge into a sewer pipe during a storm causing area flooding. Crews work to assess damage and restore flow as residents report rising water levels near affected streets and utilities monitor the scene.
Milwaukee report details a storm flood trapping workers in a heating tunnel at North Fifth Street and McKinley Avenue. Rain surged through the hillside streets, water rushing into the tunnel as rescuers, police, and fire crews scrambled. A hoist operator recounted seeing two bodies as the tunnel filled rapidly.
Albert Thomas, 22, a negro, was wounded in the left arm when another man, also a negro, shot at him near Second Avenue and Harrison Street about 4 30 yesterday. Thomas said the shooter had cheated him in a dice game and fled after firing. Thomas was detained by police as they hunted the suspect.
In The Hague 15 judges will hear arguments on the Austro German customs union at the world court. Oral arguments start tomorrow with written briefs already filed. this is one of the court’s most important cases in a decade.
Albert B. Fall, the former interior secretary, remains at his Tres Rios ranch in Three Rivers New Mexico where his physician says he is very feeble. He is en route to serve a year and a day sentence for bribery at the New Mexico state penitentiary in Santa Fe. his departure may occur on Monday.
Paris reports say German and French ministers agreed on principles for extending relief to the Reich and will reconvene in London. Stimson Mellon and Henderson traveled from Paris to London as preparations for the parley began. Belgian papers criticized Western overtures while Farm Board chief Stone endorsed Hoover on European recovery.
Paris July 19 belief Germany could best be helped financially by an immediate restore policy. (Continued on Page 9, Col. 5.)
Fred O. Capbell of Coffeyville and James McCoy a farm boy from seven miles west of Parson were killed when an airplane piloted by Capbell spun and crashed after takeoff at Parson airport. Capbell owned a Coffeyville machine shop and held a private pilot license. the ship was licensed to Avola Margaret Hill of Coffeyville.
