A late night blaze at Capital Prefabrications Inc. in Austin caused about one million dollars in damage to lumber and equipment. The fire began in the warehouse and spread to the mill aided by an east wind. Traffic bogged down near the scene and Mayor Tom Miller called it among the city's largest fires.

About 18 000 letters and petitions bearing 18 000 to 20 000 names were presented to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles asking a full pardon for Dr W R Newton of Cameron who was convicted of assault to murder on Dr Roy Hunt of Littlefield. Newton is under a 30 day emergency reprieve granted by Gov Beauford Jester to protect patients awaiting surgery. The board did not comment on action on the recommendations. Thirteen Polish newspapermen and students drowned when an excursion boat capsized at Warsaw.

One Killed Three Hurt In Wreck Near Goodnight
A 1947 Lincoln sedan collided with a wheat truck on US Highway 287 about 3 miles west of Goodnight. Mrs. H. C. Winton Jr. of Fort Worth died at Clarendon hospital. H. C. Winton Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ryon were injured, with Ryon in serious condition. Sheriff Moore said the truck was eastbound and the car westbound before the crash. rescue crews freed Mrs. Winton with acetylene tools. The truck driver was uninjured. investigation continued.
