Rome reports Italy reinforcing Africa with troops and air power as Ethiopia readies tribal forces for possible conflict. A government spokesman said no formal word yet on a League of Nations special session about July 25 to address the Italo Ethiopian crisis and Italy would wait for the official reply before responding.
Reports from Istanbul say Ethiopia's Galla tribesmen plan to release lions against Italian invaders. The lion, symbol of Ethiopia, appears on the emperor's throne and is given to honored individuals as a sign of courage and independence.
Informed circles say Italy will not yield its precepts and opposes league intervention. Addis Ababa dispatches indicate Ethiopian military build up following Cairo reports of feverish war preparations. Italy counters with a large scale aerial war program.
Thor Solberg, Norwegian American pilot, returned to Floyd Bennett Field an hour after taking off for Bergen, Norway due to navigation difficulties from a tail-heavy aircraft. He plans another attempt tomorrow.

Bank robbery charges filed in Robert Lee against Charlie White and A M Hall, both Amarillo residents, for the Bronte First National Bank robbery on July 1. Sheriff Percifull and Bronte constable Walker Good secured Hall to Coke County jail and held White in Tom Green County jail. Bronte schoolgirl Clarine Gilbreath, 14, who alerted authorities, identified White as the man who watched the bank door and released her. Other bank staff did not identify either suspect.
Amarillo downtown experienced a 15 minute blackout after a transformer switch ignited the white way system near First Avenue and Tyler Street. Fire units responded from Central station at 8:23 p m, ambulance teams aided as a precaution, but officials report no injuries or serious damage and service was restored quickly.

Washington July 17 The Senate lobby committee blamed a power company for deliberate destruction of records in its anti-utility bill fight and noted 87000 telegrams flooded Washington in a week. The Associated Gas and Electric Company was named as paying Western Union messengers three cents per signature on telegrams to congressmen opposing Roosevelt's proposed abolition of utility holding companies.

John Boyd and family were held prisoner in their Lima home for 16 hours by escaped Lima State Hospital inmate J B Cox who later shot himself as police surrounded the residence. Boyd said Cox, a former schoolmate, forced him to drive to the bank to rob it while his wife and daughter faced a pistol threatening them all night.
