Hartley man dies beneath speeding train
Roy Allen a 40 year old Hartley farmhand was killed when run over by the Rock Island Golden State Limited in Dalhart July 17. A companion fled after Allen apparently fell from an ice loading dock onto the tracks as the train passed. He is survived by a Hartley brother.

Vega Youth Shot During Grain Theft Incident
Dave Gulledge an 18 year old from Bard New Mexico was wounded by bird shot Monday night at the Brafford farm near Vega New Mexico as he allegedly attempted to load wheat onto a truck. A. W. Yates who guarded the grain fired when he thought Gulledge began theft. About 27 pellets struck him and he’s been hiding in fields since. lawmen pursued from Bard county to Vega.
