The Soviet Union bought two million metric tons of U S wheat from Cook Industries Inc of Memphis. Agriculture official Richard E Bell said negotiations continue with other firms but no further sales were noted. Bell projected possible future Soviet purchases up to 10 million tons of grain and cited current export prices around 147 dollars per ton.
About 350 of the Albuquerque Police Department's 500 officers walked out in a wage and job security demand, with many resigning after a federal mediator failed to yield a settlement.
