Youth Drowns In Caliche Pit At Plainview

In Plainview 12 year old Carlos Ramirez drowned in a caliche pit near W 5th as friends searched for him for about 30 minutes. Assistant Fire Chief Arvil Harkins recovered the body from 612 feet of water. The four youths, visiting from a Bill Paterson farm, were unable to communicate due to language barriers. The body remained at Wood Mitchell Funeral Home with funeral arrangements pending.

Dutch Airliner Goes Down Over New Guinea

In Biak New Guinea a Lockheed Constellation named The Neutron with 68 aboard crashed into the sea. KLM reported at least 12 survivors including 11 passengers and a stewardess, with 3 Britons among the 48 unaccounted. Most victims were Dutch civil servants and Navy families.

Jones and Texas Tech Board in Open Rift
