Besancon France July 15 Cardinal Binet a renowned World War I chaplain hero died today from uremia and cerebral congestion. The cardinal who served with distinction in battlefields passed away prompting tributes from military and church leaders.

In Los Angeles a rattlesnake escape halted proceedings in the courtroom where Robert James faces trial for the death of his seventh wife Mary. A pair of snakes, including one named Lethal, were alleged by the state to have tortured Mary James before she drowned in a bathtub. Spectators climber chairs as the reptile escaped its cage during a scientific test.
El Paso district attorney announced that Consuelo Sanchez, 12, signed a confession admitting she stomped to death her 2 year old nephew Manuel Rodriguez. Autopsy cited ruptured liver and abdominal injuries from repeated falls and being jumped on.
Polly Moran recounts a 3 am confrontation with husband Martin Malone in which he produced a pistol, fired but jammed, and threatened her. Malone was jailed on assault with a deadly weapon charge, released on $500 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for July 29.
Dr. Francis E. Townsend urged a constitutional amendment to guarantee a citizens service award of 200 dollars monthly for all 60 year olds during his second national convention in Cleveland. Thousands attended in Public Hall as Townsend criticized the Roosevelt administration and hinted at share-our-wealth ideas linked to Huey Long and Father Coughlin.
Curtis Douglass candidate for state senator will speak in Amarillo at an open air rally tonight at Sixth Avenue and Louisiana Street San Jacinto. The program begins at 8 30 with R A Wilson introducing him. Loud speakers and flood lights will be installed at the meeting site.
In Twinsburg Ohio three workers were killed when powder in the press mill exploded at the Austin Powder Company. Several others were injured as responders battled the blast. John Liston was fined 400 dollars in Chicago after resisting city payment and opting for jail. authorities found a 48000 dollar bank account.
Senator Morris Sheppard, called the dean of American congressmen, defended his 34 years in Congress and urged the New Deal as the country’s salvation in a Municipal Auditorium address. Samuel J. Culwell Jr. of Amarillo, 22, drowned near Rockport while vacationing in South Texas. His body search resumes today. He studied at Texas Technological College and worked for Lindsey Theaters in Lubbock. He is survived by family in Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and Fort Bliss. Separately in Austin, the state board of education set a $19 per capita school aid for next year, the highest ever, and approved 2,000,000 for free textbooks amid mixed tax outlooks for revenue.

In Elkhart near Palestine today a mobile truck crash killed three Black residents, injured two others, and hurt a White truck driver Ed Manning of Amarillo. The fatalities were Louie Woods Morell Hayes 17 and Iuwell Hayes 4. Ed Manning, John Henry Hayes, and Winfred Hayes received treatment at the scene.
H. G. Frosty Hamrick, Potter County auditor, had an appendicitis operation Thursday at Northwest Texas Hospital. His condition was critical after a relapse Saturday, but late last night hospital officials said he was resting well.
Postmaster W D DeGrassi will open proposals at 9 this morning in the federal building to determine a new Amarillo post office site. About 30 bids are expected. he will read each proposal aloud and reveal locations and bid amounts. Proposals will be held until next Monday.
