Gov. Ronald Reagan declines backing the Nixon Mills welfare plan, arguing it would swell relief rolls. He favors a California style plan that tightens eligibility and directs able bodied family heads to public work, while western governors push for broader federal funds and a milder requirement approach.

The Democratic National Committee says Nixon plans to drop Vice President Spiro Agnew from the 1972 ticket. They predict Agnew will announce he will not seek re election after a curtailed 31 day abroad trip. Republican leader Robert Dole scoffs at the idea and says a Nixon Agnew ticket remains likely.
The Senate sustained Nixon’s veto of a 5.6 billion public works bill aimed at job creation, with 57 votes to 36. Five Republicans crossed party lines. only one Democrat supported the veto. The package also included 1.5 billion for Appalachian development and 2 billion for current public works renewal.
Texas Panhandle to begin equine vaccine inoculations with VEE vaccine flown from Austin to Amarillo area veterinarians. Dr. Fred Love said state health officials confirmed vaccine availability for horse owners, with costs set at three dollars per horse.
Phillips Petroleum announced no bids or contracts yet for the Borger polyphenylene sulfide resin plant to be built within the Philtex complex. The six million pound annual plant is due for completion by mid 1973, with development quantities available from Bartlesville. Ryton resin, developed by Phillips Research, shows strong adhesion to metals and is used in molded parts with fillers to boost chemical resistance.
Communications Workers of America members walk out in Amarillo Pampa and Hereford. Picketing begins at 5 am with lines forming while other union affiliates honor the action. Local CWA Western Electric joins nationwide labor actions as contract deadlines loom for AT&T Long Lines and Southwestern Bell.
Up to one million Bell system workers struck over issues but early reports show light picketing and largely normal service. Some operators faced delays in long distance and area code lookups. unions warn maintenance may falter as strikes continue, with no talks yet scheduled.
Officials wait for identification and cause of death of a woman found Tuesday evening in a field near St Francia and the Fritch Highway north of the city. Police and state pathologists test fingerprints and other evidence to confirm identity. the victim is believed to be Linda Kay Simmons, 24, of 641 N Osage, reported missing since June 25.
Where To Find It filed a missing persons report with city police on June 26. Our best hope is through fingerprints and comparing them with hospital records of Mrs. Simmons. Dental records ruled out Gloria Green of Odessa missing since June 17. Austin officers and Dr. Jose Diaz-Esquivel used tooth patterns and other methods to reach conclusions after testing with microfilmed fingerprints from Northwest Texas Hospital records.
J H Kultgen of Waco praised area legislators for past TSTI support and asked help for future bills. He seeks pay parity for TSTI staff with other state institutions. An appreciation luncheon at Mid Continent campus was attended by six area representatives and 14 TSTI officials.
