In Van Nuys California Joseph Fine welcomed his mother Hanna Fainstein 77 who arrived by air after 37 years since he waved goodbye in a village in the Russian Ukraine. He spoke of her needs and family support promising to care for her as she joins him and his California family.

James F. Malloy 53, a painter from Philadelphia, was identified by fingerprints after being found shot three times and placed in a trunk. Police traced the victim to 3660 West Gratz Street Philadelphia and pursued clues as detectives in New York and Philadelphia work to locate two unknown men who delivered the trunk to a Railway Express office bound for Los Angeles.
Five people were killed in three separate crashes in the Texas Panhandle, southwestern Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Panhandle. The victims include David L. Shelton of Pampa, a Turkey couple Virgil and Mrs. Young, and Robert Brown of Lindsey. One child died later from injuries.
