Tacoma investigation unfolds after William Cole announces Frank Olson, 32, confessed to the Mattson kidnapping and murder. Olson, held at Winthrop Hotel, implicates others but details clash with known facts. several persons questioned and alibis noted. The Mattson boy was abducted December 27, 1936, his nude body found in Snohomish County near Everett.
The AP Feature Service notes six children kidnapped since the Lindbergh baby case in 1932 32. Margaret McMath aged ten was abducted near Harwichport Massachusetts on May 2 1933 held in a house and released after a $60000 ransom was paid. The kidnapper received a 24 year sentence.
The Indiana Democratic party touted renomination of Senator Van Nuys and support for Paul V. McNutt for 1940. Roosevelt's goodwill tour rolled through Colorado as Oklahoma voters tested the New Deal in a primary. Senator Elmer Thomas led in Oklahoma, with Phillips topping Governor rivals in the Democratic governor race.
