W. C. Cox 82 recalls Adobe Walls fighting the 1874 clash that he says broke Indian power and shaped Texas history. He places the date around June 27 1875 and notes Quanah Parker was wounded, with U S troops and buffalo hunters under siege in stockades near Adobe Walls.
Amarillo post office reports June receipts of 26552.54 dollars, exceeding the 1931 June record by over 200 dollars. Postmaster W D DeGrassi cites strong business, noting this marks the tenth straight month of higher income than the prior year, with July 1 1935 to July 1 1936 fiscal year total reaching 305027.20 dollars as the greatest amount since.
About 30 directors and officers from four Plains Production Credit associations gather in Amarillo for a two day meeting at the Amarillo Hotel. John V. Coleman about 50 of Peoria Missouri died after injuries from a freight train incident in Tucumcari Friday. He lingered two days before dying at Northwest Texas Hospital. Funeral arrangements await his son-in-law Arthur Karpins of Delores Colorado and Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home will hold the body.
Margaret Louise Betl known as Jean Costello, a 23 year old witness against Charles Lucky Luciano, was found in an Washington apartment with CL initials and 3 12 carved on her thigh and abdomen. She said she was beaten bound and tortured by a Luciano gang member and left to die from gas jets. Police rushed her to hospital then to the woman’s bureau for questioning. She links attack to gangland reprisal and identifies two suspects.
Heavily armed riflemen posted on Coolidge Dam ramparts to guard the gallows where Earl Gardner, Apache Indian, will be hanged at 5 30 A M tomorrow. U S marshal Ben J McKinney enrolled special deputies and prepared for any possible uprising while Gardner plays cards in Globe jail.
President Guy Saunders of the Amarillo Senior Chamber of Commerce and Binford Arney of the junior chamber announced joint reception committees for a full day Colorado to Gulf Highway jubilee assembly in Amarillo. Delegations from Denver to Waco and San Antonio will attend, with Texas Highway Commission representatives Harry Hines and John Wood.

H G Frosty Hamrick the Potter County auditor who had an appendectomy last Wednesday at Northwest Texas Hospital was reported last night to be improved over Sunday morning. His physician said he will not be able to receive visitors for several days.
Parkes Cadman renowned Brooklyn radio preacher dies at 71 in Plattsburg New York after a weeklong illness from peritonitis due to a ruptured appendix. He refused to cancel a Sunday engagement, underwent emergency surgery, and received a blood transfusion. his daughter Marie Cadman donated the blood and was with him at the end.
Cool air has given Texas a welcome respite as northern states swelter. Panhandle highs range 80s with mornings near 62, Gulf areas stay comfortable, and Ballinger hit 100 once. Overall averages float 66 to 96 degrees across the state.

New Mexico sees partly cloudy conditions with Monday and Tuesday partly cloudy and likely local thundershowers in the north, little temperature change. Arizona remains generally fair with minimal temperature shifts on Monday and Tuesday.
Tom F. Hunter of Wichita Falls returns as gubernatorial candidate to Amarillo with an open-air address at Seventh Avenue and Tyler Street. He will stress an old age pension plan and its disbursement, claiming nine million in losses to Texas seniors. He cites Governor Allred’s alliance with William Randolph Hearst and calls for abolishing ad valorem taxes in favor of a gross income levy while criticizing alleged broken promises.

Scientists reveal Col Charles A Lindbergh began dabbling in science before his New York to Paris flight. The aviator, famed for crossing the Atlantic, showed early scientific aptitude and pursued projects prior to his aviation fame, details disclosed by researchers and colleagues.
Unknown flier Lindbergh wrote to an archeologist asking if aviation could aid archaeology. After a Central American flight he saw a temple ruin in Yucatan and asked Dr. Abbot for a book. Carnegie Institution suggested field work at Pecos NM. He later flew over Yucatan in 1929 for the Carnegie survey.
