Chester Bailes 32 of Kansas City and William Warren 22 of San Antonio died when a Detroit Aircraft Corporation plane loaned to Braniff crashed at the Municipal Airport. Attaches said a motor failure left Bailes unable to maintain speed or altitude after lifting to about 700 feet, causing a high speed impact and a large explosion. Bailes was a Braniff pilot. Warren from Texas was another flight crew member.

Man Crushed Under Box Car Dies After City Accident
Cecil Samoris, 43, of 500 Northeast First Street, died after being crushed beneath a box car on a switch track near the Rock Island roundhouse. He was struck by a switching car while returning from a recreation hall job at Fourth Avenue and Pierce Street. His left foot and ankle were mangled and his right arm was severed above the elbow. The body is in care of Griggs & Sons.

Six Injured In Amarillo Sunday Accidents
Sunday accidents in Amarillo sent six people to Northwest Texas Hospital. The most serious injury was a deep facial wound to Tom Triplett after a collision on Gem Lake road near Western Avenue. The Self family and Maurine Morgan were also injured in a separate crash on the Amarillo Canyon highway. A third collision at Sixth and Western sent three to the hospital, with R L Turner and Claude Wahisenhunt involved.

Nine Prisoners Escape From Lubbock City Jail
Nine inmates escaped from the Lubbock city jail by sawing out two window bars last night. Escape was detected this afternoon when the mother of Cecil P. LeBow, 20, visiting to see him, triggered discovery. Eleven other prisoners refused to join the breakout. several had ties to last month’s attempted break.

Burned men in car crash will recover
Canadian July 12 special to The News says Leslie Strader and Joe Griffin of Adrian were severely burned in a Highway 33 crash two and a half miles northeast of here Saturday afternoon. J F Strader, 52, Adrian, father of Leslie, was killed. The three men were traveling toward the Oklahoma line when their car struck a parked truck, overturned, and caught fire. Charles Whitson, truck driver, described seeing the sedan leave the road and crash as it passed his vehicle.

Companion Unhurt Fatality After Highway Collision Near Thompson Pool

Tree Climbing Snake Stuns Dalhart Residents

Funeral services for William Woods Ellison aged 45 were held at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. R. Thomson presiding. Ellison died at his home on Washington Street late Saturday night and leaves a widow and one son, two brothers, two sisters, and noted business leader in Amarillo, president of Armstrong Transfer and Storage Company and head of the Amarillo Transfer and Warehousemen's Association. Altercation at service station leaves man dead
W. W. Doc Guyton 82 of Shamrock is killed when Clarence Pryor allegedly fires a 32 caliber pistol at close range at a service station.
