Earl Rogers of Fort Worth was arrested Saturday night for the Friday Ford roadster theft in Fort Worth and confessed. Joe White alias James Brooks admitted stealing a Ford coupe in Raton New Mexico and was returned after waiving extradition. Chief Gaither says gang pressures lessen auto thefts as arrests spread.
Continued heat drives Canyon residents to picnicking and swimming with the Palisades site eight miles northeast as the faculty of West Texas State Teachers College selects it for a large outdoor gathering. Dr J Adams Puffer guest of honor at a stag picnic. 1300 students invited to a faculty hosted picnic at Coolie canyon on July 14 marking the end of the first half of the summer session.
Amarillo police discharge Motorcycle Officer Gus Allbright after off duty intoxication admitted by him. An incident at the du Lido clubhouse allegedly left Officer Dick Muir with a minor finger injury from Allbright s gun as they scuffled. Chief H L Gaither notes witnesses absolved Muir and vows no further action. off duty conduct bars employment.
The new concrete bridge on state highway No. 9 across Runningwater draw in south Plainview will open next week. OC B. Ashford of the Austin Bridge company, builder, says the structure has a 22 foot drive with a slight crown and concrete parapets above the floor, built entirely of concrete.
South Plains oil fields solidify as L. L. Donnell Petroleum No. 1 Mullican near Hale Center marks a new Texas oil area with Lubbock named capital. Over 100 oil men from Texas approve the move while seven wells drill near Lubbock and more planned. Mayor Pink L Parrish leads local welcome as John Kegans of Tulsa invites visitors to view the No. 2 Mullican well.
Funeral services were held for 22 year old Fred Eliot Dysart of 310 Belleview street who drowned while swimming in Palo Duro creek at the Palisades on Saturday. Companions Sam and Lewis Thomas attempted rescues before exhaustion forced them to quit. The body was recovered within thirty minutes by life guards and medical efforts failed after an hour of artificial respiration. Dysart leaves a widow and young son, and his parents live at 810 Belleview street. He had lived in Amarillo ten years and was a member of the DeMolays and Elks and an ex student of Amarillo high school.
Dr. Anderson of Dallas preached at the Southern Presbyterian church as part of a 10 day visit. He described God’s love as deep enough to save true enough to chastise tender enough to sympathize and strong enough to last forever citing scripture. The church was full and evening services featured a sermon on The Glorious Gospel. No services Monday and no Bible class Tuesday due to a funeral. he will return Tuesday noon to preach Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.
The city awarded a contract Friday night for nearly nine miles of storm sewer to drain east Amarillo. Main outfall will tap East Amarillo creek from a northwestern North Amarillo location, with lines on Second Sixth Eighth streets and a Rock Island right of way route serving Old Town and San Jacinto Heights. The project includes 60 inch mains on Second Avenue and extensive 30 42 and 72 inch lines linking the Grant Lincoln Seventh Madison and Jackson corridors to the new outlet.
The Amarillo Automotive association plans a new auto building at the Tri-State fair grounds. A building committee will present a definite proposition to dealers for unanimous adoption at tonight's Amarillo hotel meeting. H R B Jack says all local dealers involved are expected to attend.
Showers drenched the Panhandle from Saturday night through Sunday night with heavy rainfall near Texline to Tascosa and Dalhart reporting up to 0.63 inches. Amarillo area expected cloud cover as rain moves in, sparing crops across thousands of acres.
L. L. Foster of Shreveport Louisiana severely injured June 23 in a rooming house stabbing at Pampa traveled to Amarillo en route to Shreveport for surgery. He spent three weeks in a Pampa hospital with five knife wounds reaching the chest and left lung clotting, doctors advised.
Juarez owes El Paso Electric a 12000 dollar bill and faces a planned cutoff, threatening nightlife and the bridge link to El Paso. Police Chief Onate notes the difficulty for locals to navigate home without street lights.
Canyon Texas July 10 Special to The News Texas plans two year budget totaling 404015 with 333806 for buildings including a 700000 education building to relieve campus congestion. Construction starts September 1 with occupancy planned for the summer session 1928.
