The Arab League challenged U S intervention in Palestine before the United Nations and condemned Jewish lobbying in America. It urged replacing the British mandate government in Palestine with a UN guided regime and warned of wider Arab unrest if emigration plans proceed.

Bus rear axle was twisted and the vehicle damaged beyond use. All injured were taken to Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment. Police investigated the crash.
Four brothers Albert 40 Frank 28 Henry 26 and Ernest 23 Gabriel surrendered to federal authorities in Chicago for evading the draft by hiding in an attic for four years. They faced charges of failing to report for induction and to register for Selective Service and were held to the grand jury in bonds of 5000 dollars each.

Philadelphia police disclosed 288 fountain pens and 2 592 aspirin tablets were stolen over the weekend in a city burglary. Detectives are reviewing leads and surveying local shops for suspects.
Scotland Yard charged George Neville Heath with murder in the slaying of 11 year old Sheila Martin and hunted for more victims across Southern England. Police later linked him to the murder of 33 year old Margery Gardner at a West End hotel as detectives pursued a wider case wave.
Gov. Coke R. Stevenson proclaimed July 21 as Soils and Souls Sunday in Austin. The UP dispatch notes the ceremonial designation aims to focus attention on soil conservation and related spiritual reflections.

A French compromise set simple procedural rules to guide invitations, with Britain and the United States winning a non mandatory framework. China will attend as an invited nation, while France gains equal status on committees without voting rights except on the Italian treaty group. A steering committee will be formed with a two third majority for decisions.
London July 8 Mrs Irene Lovelock founder of the League of British Housewives said 22 women have committed death by their own action due to the strain of rationing and standing in queues.
Weather Bureau reports partly cloudy warm conditions for Amarillo andvicinity with scattered thundershowers. West Texas and New Mexico expected widely scattered showers and thundershowers with little temperature change. Highs reach mid 80s to 90s with yesterday’s rainfall around 0.05 inches.
Illinois and Midwest markets report sharp gains in cattle and hog prices. Chicago cattle hit a record price of 22.50 per hundredweight as packers indicate no revival of OPA controls. Hog prices rose across major markets with Chicago gains of 50 to 70 cents per hundredweight and higher prices in Omaha and St Louis.
The Civilian Production Administration raises manufacturers tin quotas by 10 percent for the July August September quarter to cover a 6400 ton supply gap. It plans to draw on stockpiles to reduce government reserves to 24000 tons and assigns a lump quota to each manufacturer rather than per product.
