Amarillo salvage dealers were urged to treat scrap disposal as a business expense and a way to free space for newer, more profitable junked autos. Edward W. Hassell of Washington DC said the smart approach is to remove scrap and lease the space to 1965 cars for profit. Hassell and Jack P. Sparks are in Amarillo for a federal pilot study on disposing salvaged vehicle remains. An old body, Hassell said, rarely makes money except in 1956 and 1957.
The Amarillo Hospital District Board of Managers approved a 6.48 million dollar budget and recommended a seven cent tax rate increase to 23 cents per 100 dollars of valuation for 1969 70.
