Gun battle in East Texas town leaves two dead
In Gladewater Texas on July 7 two lawmen Dan McDuffey and Jeff Johnson were killed during a firefight sparked by a disturbance call. Johnson was shot after opening fire on officers. McDuffey died en route to hospital. Officer Everett Hughes was reportedly wounded.

Health Department Condemns 2000 Worth of Fish
Amarillo health inspectors condemned more than $2000 worth of fish from Public Market storage at 113 East Fifth Avenue after finding it unfit for human consumption. The entire lot was ordered not to be sold and will likely be destroyed at the city incinerator.

Grain rate cut to Galveston announced by ICC official
An Interstate Commerce Commission telegram announced a grain rate reduction to Galveston effective August 1. From Amarillo to Galveston the rate drops from 33 cents to 31.5 cents per hundred pounds. Plain View to Galveston falls from 33 to 29.5 cents, and Pampa rates are expected to align with regional charges of about 32.5 to 34 cents.

Special to The News. Pay Williams eight year old survivor of the June 27 Clovis fire that killed four of the E W Red Williams family will leave the hospital in about ten days. Fay suffered serious burns to head face arms and legs when flaming gasoline hurled from a can exploded as her sister Louise started to fill a stove. Her 18 month old brother Bruce died in the flames and her father mother and sister also perished from burns.

Monkey talk and debates about Darwin drew firecrackers and sprinklers as fists and profanity surfaced. 84 Gallons Whisky Seized At City Garage
Federal and county officers raided the Harrison Street Garage at 4 pm yesterday and seized 168 half gallon jars of rye whisky. Suspects W. E. Scott and J. B.
