New York July 7 Governor Smith passed William G McAdoo on the 86th ballot in a rapid night session sequence. Smith forces and anti McAdoo coalitions toppled McAdoo votes on successive ballots, erasing a lead of nearly two hundred. McAdoo also lost his one third veto power over the convention.
Kansas City authorities and park officials search Swope Park area for six missing picnickers led by Union Pacific engineer Charles R. Curry and his wife Delphine. The group includes Mrs. C. J. Zasoba and Curry children Dorothy 12 Mabel 11 and Anna Belle 6. They left Saturday to spend the day at the park and have not returned.
Madison Square Garden reports a Democratic convention surge by coalition forces against McAdoo with Governor Smith gaining, reducing McAdoo to 179 votes in the night session. The adjournment honors the president and Mrs Coolidge’s son’s death while plans target Senator Glass and Senators Ralston and Harrison.
Washington July 7 Brigadier General Hines director of the Veterans Bureau was in a physical altercation with a former service man in his office suffering a gash over the left eye and bruises needing medical care. The man was Thomas B Deaver of Houston Texas who protested a medical examination at San Antonio affecting his claim. Deaver left promptly and officials said no charges would be filed.
At Fort Crockett the 36th Division Texas National Guard opened a full encampment with drills, instruction, and a large camp ball. Official reports show 269 officers and 4087 enlisted guard personnel plus 250 regular army men and 26 officers as instructors. Smaller towns supplied many companies, with Waelder sending 75 men from Company L and Bangs and Brownwood contributing sizable contingents.
Spanish Column under General Navarro extends three days of fighting and surrounds Kabadarso near Melilla. A Madrid dispatch reports heavy enemy losses, as advance forces claim control at five o'clock yesterday afternoon.

A crowd of 300 to 400 attended the opening of the Pure Food Show and Industrial Exposition at Polk Street, under the Amarillo Advertising and Salesmanship club. Miss Marjorie Nesly was crowned queen with a simple pearl band and a diamond crown, as Grand Duchess Mrs. W. B. Stephenson presided. An alternate musical program and a womanless wedding are planned for upcoming nights.
Calvin Coolidge Jr the son of the President and Mrs Coolidge died at Walter Reed Hospital from septic poisoning. The fatal infection developed from a blister on his foot while he played tennis.
Senator Morris Sheppard spoke to about two thousand in Plainview stressing agricultural and economic woes as top U.S. problems.
