The 77 year old chairman of the House Appropriations Committee said he wants to give constituents time to choose a successor and to prevent a 1978 re election bid by campaign workers.
Oklahoma City report details a car theft and arson that killed two sleeping children, Melissa Isaac aged 6 and Martin in a Newcastle manhunt. Police say a 19 year old surrendered after long police pursuit. Authorities identify the suspect as Michael Creston Moore and his 18 year old sister was detained on aiding and abetting charges.
