A mid year survey by The Associated Press found bank deposits rising across major Texas cities due to bumper crops. Dallas led gains with a $310 million increase, Houston area deposits hit a record, and cities like Lubbock Abilene Wichita Falls and Bryan reported double digit increases driven by wheat cattle and grain prosperity.
Amarillo banks report deposits at June 30 of 202,270,345 dollars, an all time high, driven by wheat harvest cash and cattle wealth. Loans rise from April but lag the December 1960 record. bankers expect further increases as liquidity remains strong and market caution persists.
