The four day rain monsoon drenches Randall County to four foot depth and fills gauges from Amarillo to Canyon with totals near 4 inches. Wheat and cotton near harvest. vegetable harvest paused from Hereford to Pecos. Potatoes see price spike as demand climbs while forecasters predict partial clearing today.
President Eisenhower ordered a sharp reduction in Cuban sugar purchases for 1960 accusing Fidel Castro's regime of hostility. The move cuts 700000 tons from the 1960 quota and leaves only 39752 tons可 to be imported this year, with potential losses totaling up to 85 million dollars for Cuban growers. The decision follows a new Sugar Act and signals a shift from restraint to penalties in U.S.-Cuba relations.
Heavy rainfall from 12 inches near Lubbock to 11.90 inches in Slaton forced 18 families from homes. Red Cross and Reese AFB supplied aid as rail lines and highways were washed out. Weather service blamed a weak front feeding Gulf air for the downpours across West Texas.

Search for an unidentified man wounded by pursuing officers from Childress continued in the Silverton area. A bullet-marked blood-smeared stolen car was found at the State Highways 70 and 256 intersection between Silverton and Brice. Deputies checked ranches and local doctors, hoping for any wounded sighting.
A large Navy airship with 21 aboard crashed into the Atlantic off central New Jersey. One dead, three injured, 17 missing. Edward B. Turner Jr. of Joppa Md identified as the dead. Survivors Joseph G. Culligan and Donald L. Shaumier among the injured. Antonio Contreras and others still unaccounted for.

Havana July 6 AP American businessmen crowded the U S embassy to seek help as Fidel Castro's decree repudiates prior laws and threatens confiscation of about a billion dollars in American investments, including most U S sugar lands. Embassy experts say recourse would be through international law.
In Canyon on July 7, two year old James Thompson wandered into a Buffalo Food Store refrigeration display with dairy products. Clerk E. W. Riley spotted movement, opened the door, and found the boy slightly chilled. James had arrived with his grandfather Bryan McDonald. no one saw him enter. Only McDonald’s nerves were rattled as the incident ended with no serious damage.
