Amarillo bank deposits total $19,281,166 as of June 30 1937, up $1,857,438 from March 31 with harvest cash still to come. Amarillo National American National First National report strong gains. analysts expect deposits to rise further due to favorable wheat prices and yields.
Ten National Banks in Dallas report total deposits of 230,505,361 as of June 30, down 2,000,000 from 232,770,215 a year earlier in response to a national bank call. Houston sees deposits rise to 224,560,804.61 as of June 30, up 944,030.60 since March 31, with 13 banks totaling 921,052.98 less than last year.
Fort Worth banks reported record deposits with figures reaching unprecedented levels. Details and related analysis continue on page nine, column three.
Rome reports Premier Mussolini open to an honorable settlement over the Spanish Civil War but convinced Britain may seek Italy’s humbling after rearmament. A royal decree creates Libya’s united land sea and air command with Air Marshal Bilbo as commander and other decrees authorize large expenditures.
The Texas board of education approved a 4.7 million dollar boost for public schools next year raising per capita aid to 22 dollars. Speakers including Mayor Quin and State Superintendent Woods urged higher state aid to 22 dollars as adequate education fights radicalism. Col Ernest O Thompson, fresh from Paris, praised Texas oil prosperity and stricter proration while touring Amarillo with wife May Peterson Thompson.

Honolulu July 6 the Amelia Earhart rescue mission expands its search to islands south and east of Howland. Two Japanese ships join two American craft and a British vessel with a Navy fleet racing toward the operation area. Putnam says radio signals imply the plane was on land when sent and cites a Phoenix Island target 280 miles southeast of Howland.

Stocks led by steel and related issues rose broadly in New York marking the widest advance since October 1934 as bullish sentiment warmed markets. Borger election witness KE L Lantron testified he was offered 1000 to help favor the Citizens Ticket. He charged Fields with double counting and ballot switching at the polls, denying other fraud charges and asserting no intimidation occurred. The News-Globe reports Line Riders, a team of reporters, will cover several Panhandle towns Wellington Shamrock Wheeler McLean Tucumcari and Conchas Dam visiting each community for three days. San Angelo July 6 Frank Barfield a San Angelo ranchman was sentenced to four years for sheep theft and had another four year term at Paint Rock Concho County. He faced a jury this morning in a case accusing him of stealing 60 head of sheep from A. Neal a rancher in Tom Green County.
Chairman Marvin Jones of the House Agriculture Committee said he would soon introduce legislation to stabilize agricultural prices. The move aligns with Senator Pope and McGill plans to revise the 1937 agricultural adjustment and push for an ever normal granary with crop controls. O'Neal of the American Farm Bureau noted broad support and discussed action with Secretary Wallace and Jones as farmers seek stronger production control.
Old Man Prosperity boosts wagonloads of wheat to Amarillo elevators as cash grain hits 1.08 a bushel the highest since 1928. Vertey’s Amarillo receipts reach 204 carloads average 1500 bushels. Walter Barlow of Great West Mills notes earlier loads at 1.08 but late-season shipments. Harvest in Central Panhandle and North Plains counties active, southern harvest nearly finished.

Former Justice Willis Van Devanter told a Philadelphia Bulletin dispatch that the Supreme Court has weathered storms before and will weather this one. He said once the crisis passes, the country will proceed in the prosperous way it did before.
James Mickey a 24 year old resident of Bartlesville Oklahoma died today from infantile paralysis in an iron lung. He was rushed 250 miles from Lincoln Nebraska on Sunday night after becoming ill.
President Roosevelt and Sen. Burton Wheeler led opposition to the court reorganization plan after a White House conference. Wheeler urged withdrawal but Roosevelt refused. Wheeler reported Roundtable talks with anti court colleagues and plotted no compromise as Senate leaders debated the administration bill amid charges of judicial overreach.
The Senate opened debate on the administration court reform plan with cordial manners giving way to partisan strain as leaders from the Democratic majority clashed with Republicans. Senator Robinson warned of a possible filibuster and vowed continuous session until it ends.
Berlin reports the German press denounced United States Ambassador Robert Worth Bingham for his London Independence Day remarks. The Nazi paper called his speech agitative and said it attacked other European peoples, questioning an American envoy’s influence in Europe.
