In Los Angeles on July 6 Harry Thomas Thompson, former petty officer, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for selling secret navy information to a Japanese lieutenant commander. Judge Leon R. Yankwich said Thompson was the first American convicted under the 1917 spy law in peacetime, remarking he would have faced a firing squad if war had been underway. The courtroom was crowded as Thompson was led in beside other awaiting- sentence prisoners.
Salt Lake City July 6 A woman's body linked to a cult's rites near Monticello Utah has disappeared according to the Salt Lake Telegram. Leader Marie M. Ogden claims the body was moved to allow the group to continue and vows life will be restored. About 30 followers were noted last year.
Pi J L Locke, a Palestine resident aged about, was found on the Arp highway Saturday night with his arm torn off after a hit and run incident. He was reported improved in a hospital in Tyler, in semiconscious condition, and unable to recall the events. The severed arm had not been recovered.

Newell’s former top houseboy. The residence was empty of Americans. authorities found full counterfeiting equipment.
Jersey City July 6 Walter Knicksi 51 of 123 Wayne Street has permission from the Department of Parks and Public Property to walk barefoot in Van Vorst Park every morning at 5 oclock due to a foot ailment. Knicksi avoided discussion of his ailment when reporters sought comment.
Police still seek clues one week after seven year old son reported the death of Florence Thompson Castle a 24 year old night club hostess found beaten in a hotel room on Chicago's near North Side. The boy Jimmie Thompson maintains the same account of a negro or a man with a black mask choking his mother as she slept. A crude sign reading Black Legion Game was found on the bedroom mirror in lipstick.
Glen Cove New York July 6 an employee of the J P Morgan estate said the multimillionaire banker is recovering rapidly from a bout of neuritis that crippled him last week.
