Armed clashes at voting places in Mexico City election

Rioting erupted in Mexico City during the congressional election with early reports showing between one and five dead and 15 to 30 injured. Armed groups attacked a voting booth and partisans clashed with clubs and stones in suburban sites as the National Revolutionary party led the anti re election group in most places.

Chinese government wins hard battle against rebels near Kwangsi

Shanghai July 6 government forces claim victory over Kwangsi rebels after a five day clash in Southern Hunan near the border. Nationalists say insurgents reduced from 25000 to 10000 as remaining fighters fled into Kwangsi. Casualties heavy on both sides. Bandits attacked U S and British ships on the Yangtze near Yochow, killing a Brooklyn sailor, with two Britons wounded. Banditry roams areas around Hankow Wuchang and Hanyang as troops shift to Henan front in a pivotal thirteen day battle.

Forecast for Amarillo and vicinity calls for slightly cloudy conditions and a fair Monday night with a high of 94 and a low of 70. Oklahoma trends toward generally fair, continuing warm through Monday and Tuesday, while Texas shows partly cloudy skies with some unsettled weather Monday and Tuesday along with light to fresh southeast to south winds at the coast. New Mexico largely fair in the south and unsettled in the north, little temperature change expected through Tuesday.

Camera Eye Dan Nets Wanted Escapee in Wichita Falls

Deputy Sheriff W Gant of Wichita Falls identified Richard Newman an escapee serving an 85 year sentence in Huntsville. After meeting Newman in a cafe in Amarillo both men left for Huntsville with Gant saying this would end Newman's journey.

Small expands East Texas swing in governor bid

Senator Clint C. Small, Democratic candidate for governor, begins a East Texas campaigning tour the week of July 6. He plans nine speaking dates ending in Marlin on Friday and an address in San Antonio Saturday, with radio broadcasts from several East Texas stops. During the trip he revisits Trinity University in Waxahachie, renewing past acquaintances and recalling how he met his wife Zoe O'Neil at Georgetown.

Coast flier sets new record with 36 outside loops

Paul Mantz aviation school chief pilot set a new world record for consecutive outside loops at Curtiss-Wright airport San Mateo California on July 6 by completing 46 loops, ten more than Dale Red Jackson had earlier in Chicago.

Tribune Chief Asks Probe of Gang Alliance

Chicago July 6 Col Robert R McCormick publisher of the Tribune urged State's Attorney Swanson to probe charges that Chicago newsmen were allied with gangsters. He urged interrogation of the article's author and follow up on all leads, as Fred R Burke, a fugitive, was tied to the Lingle slaying while disguised as a priest in the Randolph Street tunnel.

Light Rainfalls Drench North Texas Crops

Rain fell across Dallas and surrounding areas from a trace to several inches, cooling the day after a 92 degree high. Dallas and McKinney recorded light showers, Denton County near Lake Dallas saw heavy rain, Gainesville areas reported the heaviest rainfall, accompanied by vivid lightning that damaged the Teague Dry Goods Company building. Farmers expect benefit to corn crops and pastures.

Emelle, July 6 Two killed by posses hunting for four more after white men were slain July Fourth igniting days of race violence. Six deaths now tally from Mississippi line to Emelle with two identified suspects Tom Robertson and his sons. Barrel voyage ends in Niagara Falls death

Niagara Falls Ontario July 6 coroner says George Stathakis suffocated inside a barrel used to navigate rapids before plunging over the cataract. The barrel weighing over a ton was recovered near Falls View Bridge, with Stathakis still strapped to a mattress as a buffer. A 105 year old turtle survived the trek.

Lone balloon still leads as others drop in Houston race

Thirteen of fifteen balloons started in the national elimination race from Houston were down by afternoon. two more drifted northeastward. British flier dies in smash on trial trip

Seven people died and two injured in U S airplane mishaps yesterday. British airman Major C A Wynne Eyton narrowly survived a trial flight at St Johns Newfoundland. Others killed include Bert A Kogle and Duane L Heller near South Haven Michigan, Dick Dodds at Laguna Beach California, Martin Wilska and instructor John W Gorman at Floyd Bennett Field New York, and Kenneth Wilson and Ernst Southworth at Ruthven Iowa. Miss Varo Hughes of Ruthven was critically injured.

Canadian flier Wynne Eyton killed in Harbor Grace trial crash

Major C. B. Wynne Eyton, famed Canadian aviator, died after his plane struck ground during a takeoff trial at Harbor Grace. The craft burst into flames. Eyton was pulled from the wreck and taken to hospital. Eyton hoped to become the first west to east Atlantic flyer in 1930.

Iced Beer Taken in Raid by Sheriff's Force

Deputies J. W. Graves and C. T. Vanderpool seized two dozen bottles of iced beer and brewing apparatus during a raid on a house occupied by Bennie Wallace in the 1900 block Ty ler Street. Forty two gallons of beer were destroyed and Wallace was booked on possession charges with the beer stored pending trial.

Hunters Endurance Flyers Take Joy Ride After Record Flight

John and Kenneth Hunter, holders of the world refueling endurance flight record, enjoyed a celebratory air plane ride above Sky Harbor after their grueling 554 hour feat. They will face Cook County court Tuesday seeking to enjoin sale or profits from their sponsor corporation until an accounting is completed for the endurance attempt.

Hoover Expects Senate Ratification Of London Naval Treaty Soon

President Hoover returned from Rapidan confident the London naval treaty will be ratified within a week or ten days. He, Walter Newton, Senators Watson McNary and Fess canvassed Senate quorum, expecting sufficient attendance by Monday or Tuesday to push the program. Mrs. Hoover accompanied them home after a rest period, easing back from illness on the three hour drive.

Oklahoma City police held H. K. Clark of Erath County Texas after sheriff M. B. Thomas announced a felony warrant. Clark waived extradition.

Train collision injures fourteen at Baird Texas

In Baird Texas fourteen people were injured when Texas & Pacific Train No. 6, an eastbound passenger service, failed to stop at an open switch and collided with a standing freight train on the Bailey track. Injured were taken to Fort Worth. two or three reported seriously hurt. Engine No. 909 of the passenger train and the freight engines were badly damaged. Drs. Griggs Bitzer and colleagues assisted. engineer Newt Smith and conductor Tom Brigance were involved.

Special Term To Begin Work On Navy Pact Debate

Washington July 6 Appeals for ratification or rejection of the London naval treaty were issued ahead of a Senate special session to consider the pact. Republican leaders expect ratification within two weeks, while opposition fears a quorum issue could delay the opening. President Hoover may address the senate Tuesday after a special message.

Day Agent Shot To Death In Aguilar Shooting

In Aguilar Colorado early today Federal prohibition officer Dale F Kearney was shot to death from a speeding automobile on the main street. The assassin fired from the moving car and sped away, authorities said.
