Hereford Youth Drowns at Local Swimming Hole
David Melton Byrd fourteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Frank Byrd drowned Monday at a swimming hole east of Hereford. He went under while swimming with an unidentified companion and failed to resurface. The accident occurred about two oclock. Relatives live in Hereford Borger and Littlefield with survivors including two brothers five sisters and the parents. The body was found by Louis Bradley who runs Terra Blanca Feed Co and aided by Jack Simmons. The family had relocated from Littlefield Red River County and the father was out of town in Cuthand Texas.

Funeral services for Walter Jones a 57 year old Canadian resident will be held at 2 30 PM Wednesday in the First Baptist Church of Canadian. He died Monday morning after a heart attack. He was a farmer and former Hemphill County sheriff 1928 to 1938 and partner in a Canadian dry goods firm 1938 to 1945. He was a Masonic member and a deacon at the First Baptist Church. A car driven by August Ralph Dusseau of Sunland California struck a pedestrian in Tucumcari causing severe internal injuries to a woman passenger.
